WELCOME TO ELAN PERFORMER
Manual Supplement
Version 1.03
July 1989
This document will assist you with some more detailed information and cover
some additions to the program that are not mentioned in the ELAN PERFORMER
user's manual. We suggest that you browse through this addendum now, and
then look through it again as you are reading the manual.
First of all, be sure to send in the Owner Registration card! This is the
only way we can keep you informed about new updates as well as new products.
We would also like to hear from you when you've had a chance to work with the
program . . . and let us know what you'd like to see in future programs.
THE PERFORMER PLAYER
Included on the disk is the PerformerPlayer program that you can distribute
along with your artwork. Since it takes less room on disk than ELAN PERFORMER
does, you can fit more imagery on your disk. Simply drag the player icon
from the ELAN PERFORMER disk onto your imagery disk.
To start the player from Workbench:
1) Click on the the Environment file icon.
2) Shift click on the PerformerPlayer icon.
To start the player from the CLI, type the program name, a space, and then
the name of your environment, as follows: PerformerPlayer EnvironmentName.
The player has the same real-time controls that the ELAN PERFORMER program
has, but it has no control screens, and it will only play Environment files.
SETTING THE KEYMAP
From the workbench:
1) Click on the SetMap icon in the system drawer of your ELAN PERFORMER
program disk.
2) Pull down the Workbench menu and select the INFO option.
3) Click on the ADD button next to the tool types box in the window.
4) Click in the tool types box and type: KEYMAP=xx
5) Click on the SAVE button.
6) Double-Click on the SetMap icon.
To automatically set the proper keymap for your country upon startup, type
the command "SetMap xx" into the Startup-Sequence in the s directory. For
instructions on editing the Startup-Sequence refer to your Amiga User Manual.
In place of the xx type one of the country codes listed below:
cdn French Canadian e Spanish is Icelandic
ch1 Swiss French f French n Norwegian
ch2 Swiss German gb British s Swedish
d German i Italian
CHAPTER 2
Pages 26-27:
Just a reminder that all of the number buttons can be changed up or down in
increments of one by clicking above or below them.
Page 34:
If you have an Amiga with the 1 Megabyte chip ram upgrade (Super Agnus), you
may not need Display Protection on, as there should be enough display memory
for most applications. If you only have the 1 Meg of RAM, all of it Chip
RAM, Display Protect ON will automatically be disabled.
Pages 38-39:
A new button has been added to the SAVE window entitled "check size". If you
wish to find out the the amount of memory an image, animation or environment
will take up when saved to disk, toggle the button to on. It is best to leave
the button off until needed, as it may take a few moments to calculate.
Page 40:
The manual states that ANIM3 files cannot be saved with changes in the color
map between frames. Actually, if you create animations with color changes,
ELAN PERFORMER will save and read them. Be aware that most other software
will not read such files, so if you want to export them, make sure that all
the color maps in your animation frames are the same.
CHAPTER 3
Pages 47-49:
If you would like to run through your images very quickly in the AUTO or
MANUAL SEQUENCE modes, make sure that the HOLD times for each key are set to
Zero. This feature is useful if you are stringing together a series of
images on separate keys to form a single animation.
Page 56:
When you interrupt the loading of an animation, an incomplete animation will
be left on the key. To clear and reload this animation, press the "Tilde"
key (~), then press the key that holds the incomplete animation.
CHAPTER 4
Pages 57-59:
When running the FrameCutter, RIFFsplicer or ANIMsplicer from the Workbench,
the window will disappear once the program starts running. You will be able
to watch the memory indicator change on the Workbench menu bar as frames are
loaded and saved. You will know that the program is finished with its
operation when the indicator returns to the normal memory size.
CHAPTER 5
Pages 72-73:
Whenever you link environments to other disks, make sure that the parent
environment calls a nested environment that is on a currently mounted
(inserted) disk. This nested environment may call images and environments
from another disk, as long as the first key loaded from that environment (the
one highlighted by the red triangle when it was saved) is not another
environment. In other words, the nested environment must be available when
it is called, and it must load an image before going on to another
environment. If an environment is not there when called, you will be
returned to the control screen.
CHAPTER 6
Page 88-90:
The manual states that, from the CLI, the format for setting loop time for an
animation is as follows: -lt##,##,## This is incorrect, the actual format
uses the COLON (:) character to separate minutes, seconds and frames, as
follows: -lt00:05:20 This would display for 5 seconds and 20 frames.
HELPFUL HINTS
MultiTasking:
To gain access to the Workbench while ELAN PERFORMER is running, you can pull
down the control screen by moving the mouse pointer to the top of the screen,
holding the left button and dragging down. you can also flip to and from the
Workbench by holding down the "Left Amiga" key and pressing the N and M keys.
Deluxe Paint III:
When Dpaint III saves out an animation file, it is always saved as a "Loop
ANIM". To make a smooth transition from key to key during a sequence in ELAN
PERFORMER, the extra 2 frames at the end of the loop ANIM can be deleted.
Here is how to do this:
1) Assign the ANIM to a key.
2) Set Reverse: ON in the EDITOR window for that key.
3) Press ESC to load the animation.
4) Step through the animation with the arrow keys.
5) If there are two frames at the end that are duplicates of the first two
frames, you can delete them using the BACKSPACE key.
6) Press ESC twice to return to the Control Screen.
7) Click in the File Box and type the name you wish to use for the new file.
8) Click on the SAVE button.
9) Select either the ANIM3 or ANIM5 button.
10) Choose NO when the prompt asks you if you want to save a loop anim.
Have Fun!
